Building from recent successes in Boise, the Impeach Obama Now! Coalition organized another protest last week, this time in Indianapolis. President Obama was in town to visit Ivy Technical Community College in town, to discuss his proposals for free community college and other topics. In coverage of the event by the Indy Star, they described a scene that had people assembled both for and against Obama.

The assembly started small but grew as the time got closer to the President’s arrival.

In Boise, slightly fewer attendees came out (although the weather was much colder). Organizers said they were pleased that numbers continue to grow. Lori Gordon, an Indianapolis resident who attended the event, said everyone got along well and that she’s looking forward to doing another event, even though some Obama supporters showed up too. Lori, who has protested against Obama before, said “I say we need to get out there and let people know that Obama is destroying our country! I fight for our soldiers! Our Veterans! Our American kids! We need an American Leader! A God Fearing Leader! We need a leader who can mention the evil threat of Islam, and Obama refuses to call them [the Taliban] terrorists!”.

Those who went to the event expressed a number of different reasons for showing up. Most were concerned about his unconstitutional executive orders that facilitate amnesty for illegal aliens in the country, but reasons were many and varied. Some were concerned about other Obama scandals, like Fast and Furious, Benghazi, the IRS targeting, and the VA mismanagement. Many were livid at his mismanagement of the problems in the Middle East with ISIS. One attendee said he didn’t care whether it was via impeachment or if Obama was forced to resign, he would take every opportunity he could to protest until Obama was out of office.

Organizer Roger Ogden of the Impeach Obama Now! Coalition said he was glad to see that so many people were willing to take time out during the week to express their views. “On Monday, when we found out Obama was coming to Indianapolis, everyone said there wasn’t enough time to get it done, yet we managed to bring people together once again to let Obama see the results of his policy and be reminded at each stop how America feels about his leadership”.

During his visit to the College, Obama spoke primarily about his plans for free Community College, and took some questions from the audience (most of whom were considered friendly Democrats, even in now-red Indiana where Obama lost to Romney in 2012). Among them were some about the price of gas. Indy Star reporter Tony Cook, who was live-Tweeting the event, posted this:

It’s worth saying that when the price of gas is high, somehow the President isn’t responsible, but when the price is down he’s able to take credit for it with a straight face. Much of the rest of the speech was spent discussing the community college plan, including how it would be paid for and the ramifications of having so many more AA’s in the marketplace for employment.

Protests are expected to continue in the coming weeks, with organizers intending to meet each Obama appearance with a fresh set of protestors. Obama’s next public speaking engagement is Friday in Palo Alto, where he’ll address a cybersecurity conference there before heading to a Democrat fundraiser in San Francisco. Ogden of the Impeach Obama Now! Coalition says he hopes to kick off monthly protests in a number of areas as the weather begins to warm up for Spring.
